Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union Welcomes New Director
Carolina Trust is proud to welcome Dr. Marvin Keene to the Board of Directors.
Dr. Keene brings more than two decades of experience in higher education, finance, entrepreneurship,
and community leadership.
Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Keene earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics
from Florida State University in 1999 before completing his Ph.D. in Finance in 2004.
Following graduation, Dr. Keene joined the faculty at Coastal Carolina University, where he spent 17
years teaching finance and mentoring future business leaders. During his academic career, he also
served in numerous leadership roles, including Department Chair. In 2021, he was appointed Dean of
the School of Business at Coker University, where he led strategic initiatives focused on academic
excellence, innovation, and community engagement.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Keene is an accomplished entrepreneur. In 2014, he and his
wife, Kay, purchased a Kona Ice franchise, which they have successfully owned and operated for the
past twelve years. He also owns and manages multiple businesses, including Express Employment
Professionals in Florence, South Carolina, and Keene Business & Financial Services, reflecting his
commitment to workforce development, small business growth, and economic opportunity throughout
the region.
Dr. Keene has dedicated much of his professional life to serving his community. He has served on
numerous nonprofit and civic boards, providing leadership in financial oversight, governance,
education, and economic development. His passion for service, coupled with his extensive background
in finance and business leadership, makes him a valuable addition to the Carolina Trust Federal Credit
Union Board of Directors.
Dr. Keene and his wife have been married for 27 years and are the proud parents of three adult
children: Marcus, a graduate of Clemson University; Michael, a graduate of the University of South
Carolina; and Melissa, also a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Their family's commitment to
education, service, and community continues to inspire Dr. Keene's personal and professional
endeavors.
