DESCRIPTION:Join Horry County Museum's Technical Assistant Thomas Strebeck on September 13th at 1 PM and Learn about the history of Golf in Horry County\, from the first course built in the 1920s to the most recent professional golf tour\, and how some of the biggest names in the sport helped transform Myrtle Beach from an ocean village into a vacation destination that attracts millions of visitors every year and claims the title of the "Golf Capital of America." Thomas Strebeck grew up in Louisiana and moved to South Carolina for graduate school in 2021. He has a Bachelor's Degree in History from Louisiana Tech University and a Master's Degree in Public History from the University of South Carolina. He has completed internships at George Washington's Mount Vernon in Virginia\, Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts\, and the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum in Columbia\, South Carolina. He has been at the Horry County Museum since 2023. The program will begin at 1:00 PM on September 13th in the McCown Auditorium located at 805 Main Street\, Conway SC.
